Antique folk art carved and painted wooden axe: An English, 19th century, trade / society sign, or parade / ceremonial axe. The axe is made entirely of wood as a 2-piece mortised construction, with a painted blade. It is a nicely proportioned and balanced piece, with beautiful patination on the handle. The letters "AOF" on one side of the blade, and the numbers "3395", appears as barely visible impressions underneath a layer of black paint, and implies that these letters & numbers were painted over once they became redundant, thus extending the serviceable life of the axe. Please NOTE: These changes are historic / antique changes.
Condition: Well-made and in excellent, antique condition. No repairs.
Size: 26" in length; 12 ½" blade length; 7 ½"
