Early 1900s, English officer's metal strong box. This handsome box features decorative brass hardware and an engraved plaque that bears the officer's name and the initials for the Royal Army Services Corps. The box is of seamed construction and the brass hardware is reinforced with copper rivets; there is also a strong, heavy-duty copper handle. The box retains much of its original black jappaned surface that has since acquired a visually pleasing patina. On the side is a remnant of an original railway passenger's paper label. The box is structurally sound; it comes in original and unrestored condition. Wear is typical and commensurate with age; there are a couple of minor dents in the lid. It comes in excellent, useable condition. Measures: 18" x 12" x 10".
