Antique shallow hand -carved wooden laundry washing bowl - wonderful early (perhaps 18th Century) primitive Americana. Likely use was for washing out small linens or undergarments.
Irregular hand carved oval shaped with lines of washboard ridges carved into one side, Beautiful dark wood (possibly walnut)has been waxed (not varnished) to accentuate the natural wood grain finish.
The pronounced irregular oblong oval shape (15-1/4" long x 14-1/2" wide x 6" high) is very unusual. Inside the bowl is 5" deep.
This bowl is in great condition and very sound. Cracks with the wood grain add to the character of this country bowl, but do not affect the structural integrity of the bowl.
An unusual and rare addition to any collection of 19th Century country wooden bowls.
