Vintage c 1909 German color lithograph Valentine postcard features brilliant colored chromo- lithograph heavily embossed image of blonde girl cupid and brown-haired boy in a cloud, with a large heart and roses suspended above, and the caption "To My Valentine" across the deep blue sky. The images are much more defined, and the reds, blues and flesh tones have greater brilliance, than they appear in the attached scan.
Chromo-lithograph color artwork is un-signed. There is a publisher's logo for "SL & Co.", and "Made in Germany" on the back. Un-posted but hand-addressed simply "Paul Orman, City", (the nephew of my husband's grandmother). Only the initials "Q.B." are in the message section.
PHOTO NOTE: The photos distort the clarity of the images and sometimes the intensity of the colors. The muted "grainy" look is a distortion. The colors are more vivid and the clarity greater when viewed in person. Minute defects are exaggerated by the scanning process, and many are barely noticeable when viewed in person.
CONDITION: Standard-sized postcard is in excellent condition. Any flaws are visible in the photo scan. The white border may have some age discoloration. The back has a brown cast which may be original. The diagonal white mark across the top of the large heart is slightly raised. If it is a crease, it does not extend through to the back-side. The lighter areas on the face of the large heart appear to be high-lights, but could be wear.
