1950 New York Giants Major League Baseball Team Spring Training Roster Book, Scorecard and Ticket Stub - March 17, 1950, New York Giants vs Saint Louis Browns - Phoenix, Arizona Municipal Stadium
Booklet includes an unused score card for the March 17th game and the complete Spring Training rosters for both teams. The Giants roster includes many star players, including Bobby Thompson, who hit the legendary game-winning home run against the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1951 National League championship playoff game; as well as many players who later became major league managers for other teams. The roster for the hapless Browns includes Bob Turley, who was later a star pitcher for the World Champion New York Yankees. Also included are an interview with Giant manager Leo Durocher (1948-1955); team news items; and numerous ads for local Phoenix merchants. Booklet measures 10" x 7".
In 1950, most major league baseball teams held Spring Training camps in Florida. Only the Giants and four other major league teams - the Browns, Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland Indians - held their Spring Training camps in Arizona.
CONDITION NOTE: Condition is excellent. Booklet spine and pages are all tightly stapled, and there are no rips or tears. The only flaws are the old acidic scotch tape pieces used to attach the ticket stub to the front, and affix the program in an album, which is still tightly affixed, but is now noticeably yellowed with age. Some of the tape discoloration has bled through to the inside. However, this discoloration is much less distracting in person than it appears in these photos.
