Vintage 1906 Grand Trunk Railway System Timetable – Canadian and United States Passenger Service – Through-Train and Connecting Line Schedules – Lehigh Valley , Central Vermont, and Boston & Maine Railroad Service – Horse-Drawn Cab Fare Schedules

Vintage January 22, 1906, complete passenger train schedule for the Grand Trunk Railway System of Canada in two-fold booklet format. Includes schedules for all Grand Trunk train routes from Boston and Portland, Maine to Chicago, through Ontario via Montreal and Toronto in Canada, and Detroit, Michigan. Also those for trains from New York City and Philadelphia to Chicago through Ontario, via Buffalo, Hamilton, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan.

Included are schedules for named through-trains such as the Detroit and New York Express, Lehigh Express, Atlantic Express, and the Detroit Express. Also included are local, branch line and connecting steamship and railroad schedules (including the Lehigh Valley Railroad, the Central Vermont Railway Co., and the Boston and Maine Railroad) in the United States and Canada; and a four panel fold-out map of all Grand Trunk System connecting routes and branch railroads.

An interesting and unusual feature is the schedule of (horse drawn) Cab Fares charged in the major cities in Canada and the United States on Grand Trunk System routes.

The Grand Trunk Railway System, based in Montreal, Quebec, was operated in the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario, as well as the American states of Connecticut, Maine, Michigan, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Organized in 1852, by 1880 the GTR stretched from the Atlantic port of Portland, Maine, to Chicago. The GTR operated two important subsidiaries in the United States: (1) the Central Vermont Railway which operated in Quebec, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut; and (2) the Grand Trunk Western Railroad which operated in Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois. In 1923 the Canadian government formed the Canadian National Railways, by merging the Grand Trunk, the Grand Trunk Pacific (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia), the Canadian Northern and the National Transcontinental lines. However, the Grand Trunk lines kept its distinctive name.

Booklet also has nice print advertisements; connecting steamship information; British rail advertisements; and customer, rate and equipment information.

Two-fold booklet schedule is 59 pages, and measures 9"x 4-1/4".

PHOTO NOTE: The washed out texture of the images is a distortion of the scanning and photographic processes used, which frequently alter the sharper textures of the images on the actual card. The photo and scans also exaggerate the prominence of lightly soiled spots, as well as the size and texture of what are actually small creases and flaws, all of which are much less noticeable in person.

CONDITION NOTE: Very good condition, inside and out. Staples are in good condition, and cover and pages are secure. Front and back outside cover pages have surface and edge wear, Center inside pages have some foxing. The rest of the inside pages are lightly yellowed with age.
