1890s Saint Louis Victorian advertising trade card - Compliments of C. Kunne & Co. - features a brightly colored, exceptionally detailed image of girl in blue framed against a background of woodland scene with birds. The back is blank. The nature of the business of C. Kunne & Co. remains an as yet unsolved mystery. The other cards in this album have a relationship to Saint Louis, but we have found nothing specific on this company. Our best guess is that it is a women's clothing store or dry goods company.
The lithography on the girl in blue image is exceptionally fine - perhaps done with the more expensive chromolithograph process. This 4" x 5" paper trade card is printed with three-color lithography on standard card stock.
PHOTO NOTE: The scanning process distorts the clarity of the images displayed, particularly in the gallery view. The muted "grainy" look is definitely a distortion. The clarity is excellent when viewed in person. Slight creases, small blemishes, minor defects and light soiling, if any, are exaggerated by the scanning process, and much less noticeable when viewed in person.
CONDITION NOTE: In very good to excellent condition for its age. The front is in excellent shape - with some wear on the margins and corners. The left two corners have been repaired.
