Civil War Military History Illustrated Reference Book - Civil War Guns, Authored by William B. Edwards - FIRST EDITION

Illustrated Civil War military history and reference book on guns used by the Union and the Confederate armies during the American Civil War – hard-to-find First Edition of Civil War Guns, authored by William B. Edwards, noted authority on Civil War firearms and weapons. This 444-page compendium is sub-titled "The complete story of Federal and Confederate small arms: design, manufacture, identification, procurement, issue, employment, effectiveness and postwar disposal".

This volume contains information on hundreds of guns used by the North and the South sides in the American War Between the States, including many forgotten models and makes. Its 36 chapters cover such topics as the rifled musket, breach loaders, carbines, revolvers and early machine guns, including the Gatling; the models produced by individual Northern and Southern manufacturers including Colt, Enfield, Sharps and Remington; Federal and Confederate side-arms; and the Southern derringer.

Interspersed are hundreds of illustrations consisting of photos, schematics and facsimiles from manufacturers' catalogs.

FIRST EDITION, copyright 1962 by William B. Edwards, and published by The Stackpole Company of Harrisburg, PA, well-known publisher of military reference, history, and sporting books for over 80 years. Volume is 11-1/2" x 8-3/4" x 1-1/4" and printed on quality flat paper with dark brown hard-board covers. The removable plastic-covered dust-cover has a photo of Civil War era rifles on the front, and a biography of the author on the back.

PHOTO NOTE: The washed out texture to some of the images is a photo distortion, altering the sharper textures of the images in the actual book. Photos also tend to exaggerate the prominence of lightly soiled spots and sun faded areas, as well as the size and texture of small creases and flaws, all of which are much less noticeable in person.

CONDITION NOTE: The book is in excellent, almost like-new condition. The binding is tight, and the spine is supple and un-creased. The cover-boards, spine and inside pages are like new. Any significant cover flaws are visible in the photos. The dust-cover is excellent condition, with virtually no wear, surface damage or creases.
