This plaster of paris or chalkware souvenir plate from the Summit of Pike's Peak is a lovely and unusual vintage item that would appeal to collectors of Pike's Peak memorabilia, railroad enthusiasts and chalkware collectors. This has a bit of something for everyone!! The plate is 6 3/4 inches in diameter and has been hand painted. The rim is delicately scrolled with flowers and leaves in high relief. The center of the plate has a high relief image of the summit of Pike's Peak with the train coming down from the summit. There is a small scroll at the bottom of the image that bears the words, "Summit of Pike's Peak, Colo. Altitude 14.147 feet" This is somewhat puzzling as the officially cited altitude of Pike's Peak is 14110 ft., so I am not sure if they are measuring to the top of the Summit house and observaton tower or if this is a very early and inaccurate estimation of the altitude. The back of the plate is unmarked, but it does have two holes where a string or wire could be inserted to use for hanging the plate for display.
