This pedestal cake stand in made in the pattern commonly known as Grand. The original manufacturer's name was New Grand and it also goes by the name of Diamond Medallion. This pattern was produced by Bryce, Higbee & Co., Pittsburgh, PA c. 1885 in non-flint glass. The cake stand is approximately 4 1/2" tall and the plate is just under 10" in diameter. The surface has light knife wear. The glass is clear and bright. The plate has a raised scalloped edge and it is joined to the pedestal base by a wafer. There are several rough areas on the base that, when viewed with a loupe, appear to be due to the moulding process. There are two small chips on the interior edge of the base. This is a beautiful piece that would add elegance to your table.
