DESCRIPTION: Here is a lovely round butter dish of Victorian style silver plate made by the Meriden Co. and numbered 4999. The lid has an acorn shaped finial above a band of dogwood leaves and flowers. Beneath this band is another band of birds and smaller flowers. Finally there is a plain band above the lip of the lid that sits flush against the dish. The base has a band of flowers and leaves around the rim followed by a plain band leading to the foot. The base has double floral handles and a knife holder for the butter knife. The base also has an interior under plate for holding ice in the lower compartment to keep the butter cold.
DIMENSIONS: The butter dish stands 6 1/4 inches or 15.6 cm tall and reaches a width of 9 inches or 22.5 cm. The widest diameter at the rim of the top of the base is 6 1/4 inches or 15.6 cm.
CONDITION: There is wear to the silver plate and the entire exterior needs polishing. Nevertheless, the piece has beautiful detailing.
