Antique French Cut Steel Shoe Clips or Buckles
This wonderful pair of French Shoe buckles are really extra nice. Each piece has 4 open worked flowers. They are primarily round faceted pieces however there are also marquis shaped pieces as well. The amount of work that went into making these really is quite mind boggling. Each tiny piece of steel was hand faceted and then riveted to the metal buckle. Nobody does this kind of work anymore. Cut Steel was an early substitution for diamonds. This type of work has been around for centuries. These buckles are early Victorian, Circa 1850. They are signed France on each of the bars. Of course they can be applied to shoes however they can also be worn as bracelets by simply adding a thick piece of ribbon. They look fabulous on the arm. They can also be added to decorative pillows or perhaps an embellishment to your favorite hat. They each measure 2 1/2" x 1 7/8". Their condition is very good with no missing cut steel. Lovely.. Questions are always welcome.
