Although Catamore isn't one of the better known names in costume jewelry, the company produced some really excellent pieces, this one included. They often used genuine semi-precious stones in their designs, and although Grandma is not a gemologist, she is pretty darn sure that the stone that is the centerpiece of this pin is a Smoked Topaz. It measures 1 3/8" square, and has a very interesting cut to it with the facets forming a step-like pattern in the piece. The setting is brightly polished gold with a sawtooth finish, and it is marked 1/20th 12kt Gold Filled. Very nice!
