It seems like the word 'rare' is a touch over-used in the antiques trade. But when we "googled" the word "Denbe', we found woefully few results, so we think the word rare may indeed be appropriate in this item's case! We did find information that Denbe' was the mark of the JJ Denberg jewelry company in NY. Given how lovely this bracelet and earring set it, we would love to see more pieces by this maker.
The stones in this impressive set are man-made turquoise, beautifully crafted to mimic the stone with veins of white and gold flecks. The large cabochon stones are highlighted by light blue rhinestones. All stones are prong set. The bracelet measures a bit over 7" long and about 1 1/2" wide. It has a fold-over clasp and safety chain. This set dates to about 1955.
The stones in this piece are all present and in good shape. The setting is gold tone, and the plating has mellowed over time and worn thin in a few spots but is in overall good condition consistent with the age of the pieces. The earrings are clips and are about 1" long. The clips on the backs of the two earrings are not the same, leading to the conclusion that one has been replaced at some point. Both clip mechanisms work fine and seem to be secure, so this should not impact wearability. All in all, this is a fabulous set just waiting to find a good home!
