Wide-Brimmed Black Velvet Hat
This is a great little hat likely dating to the late 1930s or early 1940s. The body of the hat is black wool felt, and it is decorated with a large velvet half bow attached across the brim with band around the dome. The dome of the hat is also rimmed in velvet. There is a rhinestone and silver-tone bar attached across the fold of the fabric to hold the gathering of the bow in place. The edge of the brim is finished with a thin strip of black grosgrain ribbon.

There are no labels or markings in the hat, but we estimate the size to be approximately size 22.
This piece is in very good condition. The only defect is that the elastic strap meant to hold the hat in place is stretched out. The hat could also use a bit of shaping as the dome has gotten a few wrinkles in it over time.
