Wonderful Original Botanical Engraving, Commelin 1697-1701

This Commelin Botanical dates 1697-1701. Commelin was a Dutch physician and botanist and held the chair of botany at the university at Amsterdam. He was instrumental in making the Amsterdam botanical garden one of the finest of its time. It is of the Yellow American Morning Glory. The tag reads as follows: COMMELIN BOTANICA 1697-1701 - Yellow American Morning Glory - Especially fine engraving from HORTIMEDICI AMSTELO-DAMENSIS - by Jan and Casper Commelin. Beautifully hand-colored. Published by P. J. Blaeu, Amsterdam 1697-1701. There is a certificate of Authenticity on the back. It is matted and covered with acid free materials. Light foxing. The engraving measures approximately 10" x 15". The matted size is 20" x 24". There are five tiny dots from foxing. Otherwise, it is excellent condition.
