C. 1821 Colored Engraving Henry Alken "The Consequences of Having Plenty of Company on the Road"

This original colored engraving is Plate 5 from the book "Specimens of Riding" published by Thos. McLean London in 1821. The title is "The Consequences of Having Plenty of Company on the Road". Henry Alken was a leading sporting artist who depicted the comic side of riding horses. He was a painter and engraver, son of artist Samuel Alken. His work has graphic precision. He is known for his animal subjects. The total size of the framed print is 10 3/8" x 14 3/8". It has an early wood frame and glass. The backing is wood. I have taken it apart to clean. It would be advisable to insert an acid-free backing to prevent further damage to the print. The plate mark is quite prevalent. There is light darkening and foxing. The engraving is marked Pl. 5 "The Consequences of Having Plenty of Company on the Road" London Published by Thos. McLean Hay Market 1821 H. Alken. I have five more of these prints which I will be listing separately. All are framed in a similar fashion.
