Lovely Sampler, Unframed, 1847, EMILIE MIELSON, Denmark

This sampler has been handled quite differently than most I have acquired. It has a paper backing sewn to the fabric of the sampler and framed with a silk ribbon. The sampler measures 14" square. The sampler is done in three colors. The dark green (black) and red are quite vivid with little or no fading. The tan (could have been any color) is quite faded. The sampler consisted of rows of alphabetic letters and numerals in various stitches. There are rows of dividing lines show different borders. The sampler has the name, Emilie Mielson and den 20 Juli 1847. The back paper lining has the name and date repeated. It also says it is said to be from Bornholm Denmark. Given to Ella Dickinson Easter 1950. There is a dark stain on the second row. The silk ribbon is deteriorating. There are no holes or missing stitches. A nice early sampler.
