Most Unusual Victorian Photograph Album, 11 Hand-Colored Lithograph Pages
This circa 1900 leather photograph album was made by M & Co, United Kingdom. There is a logo on each printed page as well as a gold embossed logo inside the front cover. There are 23 cardboard pages with openings for cabinet photographs as well as carte de visite (CDV) photos. 11 of the pages are lithographs with hand-coloring. The unusual subject matter of these lithographs makes this album very special. Each of the lithographs have occupation illustrations with outstanding historical figures in that occupation. The first illustrated page is Naval. This is fitting for the brass clasp is an anchor. The other 10 occupations illustrated are: Political, Scientific, Clerical, Musical, Poetical, Medical, Artistic, Theatrical, and Legal. Each is signed K. Crawford as the artist. I am picturing just a few of the pages due to number of photos per item is limited. The album is in good condition. There are some minor small tears on the illustrated page openings, more on some of the other pages. It still has its tissue separators. These are wrinkled, but still attached. The binding is good. I often separate the pages of these albums, but currently I am leaving this one intact. The album measures 9" x 11 1/2". I hope you enjoy looking through the pages as much as I have.
