Rare British Biscuit Tin, Juvenile, Peek Frean, NOAH'S ARK
This paper label tin is shaped like a house. It was covered with colorful printed label of the PEEK FREAN Biscuit Company. One side of the roof is hinged and lifts for getting accessing the biscuits. One side of the tin has Noah with pairs of Ostrich, horses, cows, & pigs. The other side has Noah's wife with pairs of elephants, giraffe, and birds. The ends of the house have most of the paper missing. Undoubtedly this was one of a series of houses (tins) used by Peek Frean depicting fairy tales or stories, circa 1920. As the photos show, this tin shows its age and use. The paper covering is missing in several places. Much of this could have been destroyed when opening the tin box for it specifies "to open, cut along dotted line". The paper is covered with dark spots. The seams and hinges have been repaired with solder. In spite of its condition, this tin is quite rare and charming. The tin measures 6 1/2" x 2 3/4" x 4".
