Very Nice Vintage Box, Inlay Floral Design,

This box is probably a letter box, but is a nice size for many things measuring 9" x 6 1/2" x 4". This size box is very handy for storing remote controls which clutter most of our living areas. It is English and has an inlay design of leaves and flowers. It also has two rows of stringing on the lid and on the front of the box. The edge of the lid has a carved decoration. The keyhole had a round escutcheon that is missing. The lock is there, but no key. The inside has a worn red paper lining. There is a crack across the lid and the base. The one on the lid is only slightly visible from the outside. Wood often shrinks with age resulting in this type of crack. I would date this box to the late 19th century.
