Lovely Blue Transferware Sauce Tureen, Lid, Underplate, BRAMELD
This is a very early earthenware sauce tureen made circa 1830-50. The tureen has an impressed mark, BRAMELD, as well as an * and two vertical lines. The pattern as been identified as "Castle of Rochefort, South of France". This pattern was used for complete dinner services. Rochefort is a French seaport in the Bay of Biscay at the mouth of the River Charente. Brameld pottery is better known as Rockingham Works, Swinton, Yorkshire. This set consists of 3 pieces. The lid with an artichoke finial, the sauce tureen, and the underplate. Overall the measurement is 5 1/4" x 6 3/4" x 8" (tall). It is in excellent condition. There is some staining to the pedestal base of the tureen and some tiny nicks to the base of the tureen.
