This beautiful portrait was hand painted in about 1900. The lady is lovely and wears a gold pendant with a gold barrett or comb in her hair.
There is a thick fabric on the back. From my book on ivory miniatures it says the cloth covered ones are older than the portraits that were hand painted and looked like a European News print on the back.
The frame is wood with a varnish over it, but as you can see it has some minor scratches on it.
F. Stieler is the painter, and you can see clearly see the signature.
I received a message from a kind person and they noted this for me and I'm passing it on to you.
Dear Mrs. Smith, just in case you didn´t know. It is a copy after ("n" stands for "nach" = after) Stieler, the portrait of Nanette Kaula in the Schönheitengalerie in Schloss Nymphenburg. Check it out, you will recognize more beauties. I personally would put the date to 1900 or early 20th century."
Thank you so much!!
The frame is 6 1/4" by 4 1/2". The hand painted portrait on ivory is 3 1/4" by 2 1/2".
