Victorian French Writing Desk Papier Mache & MOP Inlay & Inkwell

19th Century, French, Papier Mache writing box, lap desk with Mother of Pearl inlaid decoration. The entire writing box is covered in ornate gilt/gilded scrolls and designs.

In very good physical condition, the blue velvet interior fabric has some wear. Also, one corner hinge has been replaced with a thick wire to keep it together and allow it to open. The hinge works well and the barb is intact.

There is an inkwell in the Writing box and slight crazing in the enamel paint over the Papier Mache. Typical for this type of item. The box is French made, 1860-1880.

12 7/8" by 7 3/4" by 4" tall. It is beautiful. Lay a Way is available for this item.
