This is one of the prettiest yet most unique boxes I have found to date. It should be in a Museum. It is a red leather box covered over with a ornate gold bronze filigree with all six sides showing porcelain pieces, hand-painted bouquets of flowers. The lining is superb, with a tucked, and buttoned, white, really soft, kid leather lining.
I recently saw one for much more here on Ruby Lane, with the same tucked leather lining and they claim it is Sevres and it is a Sevres flower pattern, but I find no marks. A true treasure.
It is rich and elegant, unique and gorgeous. In great shape. It is heavy and has six side to it. Circa 1850. It has a key hole but no key.
There are porcelain hand painted plaques on all sides, plus the top of the box.
The box is 5 1/2" tall and 5 3/4" wide. Perfect on the bottom as well. Absolutely a stunning and amazing box for jewelry or display.
Lay a way is available!
Thank you so much for dropping by, and I hope you will take a few more minutes and look over some of our other treasures!
