It looks as though someone was trying to imitate "The Blue Boy", a famous painting by Thomas Gainsborough in the late 1700's. It was thought to be the boy of a wealthy hardware merchant.
This isn't The Blue Boy of course, but definitely looks like someone trying to copy it. The Blue Boy's hair is the same but the opposite arm is raised on his hip. I do not see an artist signature.
The frame is made of Ivory with authentic Tortoise Shell trim over wood. The inner frame of metal is quite ornate. The frame is a match for another frame I have listed with a women in the picture. They are sold separately.
From the last part of the 19th Century. You can tell by the paper on the back. They did this to try and make the portrait to appear older than it was.
3 5/8" by 2 7/8". In very good condition.
