Early Vintage Native American Pueblo Turquoise Nugget & Heishi Bead JOCLA Necklace
This Necklace features a strand of Turquoise Nuggets & Shell Heishi Beads measuring 24” long, with (2) – 10” long Jocla Attachments with Coral Accents. The Jocla is created with Natural Graduated Rondelle Shaped Turquoise Beads, with White Shell and Natural Coral Tips.
“Jocla” is the term for the long Dangle Earrings that were usually tied onto the ear with rawhide or cording. When not worn, these large dangle style earrings were simply tied onto the end of the traditional Nugget Necklace, which made for a very decorative presentation.
When you look at older photographs of Native Americans the photos will show these necklaces worn by both men and women. There are (57) Turquoise Nuggets and over 100 Heishi Beads making up this necklace.
This is truly a Magnificent Collectible Example of Native American Jewelry. This Style of Neck-Wear dates from the earliest finds in excavations in the Western United States.
This Necklace is in Excellent Condition. Age: 1940’s -1950’s.
Your Necklace will arrive in a New Black Display Case shipped in a Priority Box.
