Signed Walnut Chest Marble Top Late 18th-Early 19th Century
Exquisite late 18th to early 19th century walnut chest with walnut burl panels edged in black ebony throughout. Round panels on each of the top three drawers have inlay of fruitwood and boxwood. Key hole and lock in each with no keys. Each depicts different musical instruments with floral and birds including a mandolin and harp. The fourth drawer is actually a secret drawer with no hardware and appears to be a heavily carved bottom apron. Reaching under the carving opens the drawer. The other three are adorned with ornate brass back plate and heavy black wood pulls. Top drawer divided into three compartments. Additional heavy floral carving on the mitered edges which flows to mitered front feet. The antique white with grey veined marble top has rounded edges as well. On top of the cabinet under the marble the chest is signed by hand "Sylund & Doll Buffalo,NY" as well as several pencil signatures of what is suspected all the cabinet makers involved in turn out ,by hand, this marvel. The piece is in excellent condition with a 2 inch hairline brown scratch,not crack on the front of the marble. A black silky dresser scarf is included with gold raised floral design in embroidery and accented with bit darker gold velvet for those rooms where white marble needs to be subdued. Edged in gold rope cording and designed to outline the shape of the marble. Black fringe on both ends. Measures 50.5L X 34H X 21.25D.
