"The Police Gazette" was edited by Gene Smith and Jayne Barry Smith. It was published by Simon & Schuster and copyrighted 1972. This is a stated first printing.
In his introduction to the book Tom Wolfe writes: "The world of the Police Gazette was not merely a world of vulgarity and excitement but illicit vulgarity and excitement--and not merely illicit, either, but illicit in a particular way. It was always the low life that existed just slightly below the veneer of Victorian respectability...Here are all the fashions, the tragedies, the manners and the scandals that made the Gilded Age gilded - from the burgeoning years of the Eighties to the Gay Nineties".
The book is complete with its illustrated dust jacket. It a hardcover with foil title. This vintage book is in very good condition. The dust jacket has some tape along the bottom and it is lightly soiled. The pages are clean and the binding tight.
A great peek into the publishing world of the time.
