Hocking Depression Glass White Vitrock Depression Glass Sugar Creamer Flower Rim . This lovely, solid white Vitrock "Flower Rim" Pattern Depression Glass Creamer and Open Sugar Set was made by Hocking Glass Company from 1934 to 1937. Both the creamer and open sugar bowl have an oval shape with curved handles and a flat rim embossed with a dainty floral pattern.
Sugar bowl measures 6-1/8 inches long by 4-3/8 inches wide and is 2-1/2 inches deep; Creamer measures 5-1/2 inches long by 4-1/4 inches wide by 2-1/2 inches deep.
Both pieces are in near mint condition with no chips, cracks and look hardly used. Typical for Vitrock, there are slight surface mold markings but these are not flaws.
According to Gene Florence's book, "Collector's Encyclopedia of Depression Glass", 15th Edition, Page 237, "Vitrock's claim to fame with collectors is for its kitchenware line of reamers, measuring cups, and mixing bowls. It was advertised as a ware that "will not craze or check", a major flaw for many pottery wares of the times." Florence notes that Vitrock competed with Hazel Atlas's Platonite, which has a similar appearance.
Since Vitrock was only made from 1934 to 19387, pieces are getting harder to find these days, especially a complete set like this. A beautiful creamer and open sugar set for your Depression Glass collection!
