Art Deco German Porcelain Sugar Creamer Set 18K Gold Trim Made in 1920s Handpainted Signed. This lovely 1920's Art Deco German porcelain cream and sugar set has a beautiful hand painted design on both sides of delicate soft pink/lilac hydrangea flowers with pale green stems and leaves over a creamy mint green overall color scheme, with 18K gold trim and accents.
Both pieces are signed by "Walleb" and are marked "J & R Co. Germany, Warranted 18K Gold". Both pieces are in excellent condition with minimal wear. Sugar bowl has a nicely repaired chip on the inside of its rim that is covered by the dainty oval shaped lid. Neither piece has cracks or crazing.
Creamer measures 5-1/4 inches long from tip of spout to edge of handle and 2-7/8 inches tall. Covered sugar bowl measures 6 inches long from handle to handle; 2-3/4 tall without lid and 3-3/8 inches with lid on.
Painting porcelain/china pieces such as these was a favorite pastime of many wealthy ladies during the early 1900's and this set may be one of those. I love the intricate gold Art Deco style details on the handles and the shading of the hydrangea is perfect. However it was done, the artwork is superb and the set displays beautifully!
