1940's Red Ware Pottery Hand Painted Moriage Pitcher / Creamer Japan

Glazed brown Redware from Japan was very popular in the 1940's. The Brown Glazed finish ranged from a lighter reddish brown to a deeper chocolate brown (like this pitcher) and was often hand decorated in a relief painting style called Moriage. This pitcher holds 12 ounces and has an arched angular handle, Moriage style painted flowers in relief, and gold trim and embellishments. The pitcher is in Excellent Condition. Japan is painted in block letters on the bottom. The unglazed foot shows the identifying red clay. The small pitcher measures 5 1/2" from the pouring lip to the angled handle, and 4 1/8" tall. It comfortably holds 12 ounces. Perfect for use or decor.
