This vintage 1960's pattern by J&G Meakin of England is very difficult to find. The word rare is almost never found in my descriptions but I will use it here. After searching for years for different pieces, I can now offer a complete coffee and dessert set in this Hampton Court pattern. This set is in Very Good to Excellent Condition.* The REAL "find" is the tall and slender coffee pot. It measures 9 1/2" tall and 8" from handle to spout and is perfect! The 6" Dessert Plates and the 5 3/8" Fruit or Berry Bowls are really just as difficult to find as nothing in this pattern appears to be prolific!
This beautiful set includes:
(1) Coffee Pot
(4) 5 3/8" Berry or Fruit Bowls
(4) 6" Dessert Plates
The pattern consists of Chocolate Brown & Yellow leaves, accented by Burgundy & Brown bell flowers (or possibly stylized Tulips), all on Meakin's Classic White ironstone. The shapely fluted cups and coffee pot, with their high arching handles are perfect for serving coffee or tea, and coordinate perfectly with the fluted and scalloped bowls, saucers and plates also within this pattern. The saucers and bowls are marked only with J & G Meakin China and Pottery name, England, and "Classic White" (the name of the shape.) The other pieces carry the pattern name: "Hampton Court" in a more elaborate back stamp noting the English Staffordshire origin, the "Hand Engraving" and "Permanent Colors"
*One saucer has a teeny tiny chip in one of the scallops (easier found by feel than sight), another saucer has a rough edge within a scallop, and one of the plates has a repaired area underneath that is barely detectable. None of these areas are easily discerned. Photo #9 is darkened and can be magnified in order to assist in seeing the areas mentioned. All other pieces are without chips, nicks, breaks or stains.
