2 Steel Fishing Rods Horton Mfg Co Bristol Connecticut Telescoping Hexagon & Round

This is a selection of 2 old vintage Fishing Rods both marked BRISTOL. The Hex shaped rod has Bristol in a logo of a fly fishing casting picture. It is also marked THE HORTON MFG. CO. BRISTOL CONN. It is a 4 piece pole that extends from 42 ½ inches to approx. 114 inches long. The metal is brown painted with some wear and rust. One section is marked PAT. APPLIED FOR. The handle is loose and needs 3 thin nails for securing it to the wood. The 6 inch long cork handle has some wear. The other one is marked Bristol MODEL 8. The 8 is hard to read so may be different. The end with the markings appears to be painted aluminum. The round rod is black painted steel. It is 3 piece extending from 42 inches to approx. 101 inches. The 4 ½ inch long cork handle has some wear. It has some paint loss and rust spots. These are well used with wear and as stated in good condition for collecting, use or display. The older man I purchased them from stated he caught many fish using them. I found The Horton Manufacturing Company, of Bristol, CT. was a successful manufacturer of fishing tackle from the 1880's until the 1950's. It all started with a metal telescopic fishing rod produced by Everett Horton who wanted to sneak off and fishing on Sunday. This was back in 1887.
