Here is a beautiful 14" long porcelain celery dish decorated with an inviting nature scene and signed by the talented artist. Lovely and serene, a hand painted pond lined with birch trees narrows toward a faraway mountain range. The colors in the water and sky show a sunset or sunrise. This lovely scene is set off by a cream-colored border edged with gold enamel. The dish is 14" long x 4" wide, tapering to incised gilded handles at each end, a classic art deco era shape. Signed by the artist, "MBH 1925" on the back. The mark (commonly known as RS Germany), a green stamp on the unglazed bottom of the dish, is a star over R S (for Reinhold Schlegelmilch) in green inside a wreath, over Germany (Kovels 75D). The mark is blurred but legible. The underside rim is glazed all around in a pale lilac luster, echoing the pastel colors in the scene. The unglazed bottom has a bit of smudging in spots; otherwise this remarkable example of the art of porcelain painting is in perfect condition.
