This wonderful old Victorian Thimble Holder is in the shape of a sailboat with a shell as the hull and a Mother of Pearl sail. The mast and rigging are brass with a very nice figure of an Owl on the bow and the pennant still flying from the mast. The brass thimble is held in a loop just forward of the tiller, and the sail has the inscription "A present from Skegness" and is hand painted with a pale peach rose and blue forget me nots, hand signed "Made in Germany. It was made around 1880 and measures 4"long,1 3/4"wide and 3 7/8" high and sits on a round metal base. The condition is excellent and it would certainly make a striking addition to any collection of Antique sewing items.
