This unusual Miniature Porcelain Teapot is gilded and decorated with hand enameled Cranes in shades of black, white and gray, all around the pot and on the square lid. In the orient Cranes are a symbol of good luck, peace, honor and loyalty. It has a gilded thorn handle, and inside the entire front of the lid is pierced to form a strainer. Inside the lid is the painters mark and two rows of oriental characters to identify the maker. It is only 2 1/2" tall and 4 3/4" wide including the spout and handle. This is a lovely old piece and the porcelain is in excellent condition, the gold shows wear in all the right places, on the tips of the handle's thorns and the finial on the lid, signs we want to see on a piece this old. I am sorry I cannot identify the maker or tell the date it was made, I would think about 1900 or perhaps earlier, if anyone can read the oriental markings please let me know.
