Staffordshire Pottery Hen On Nest Covered Dish

We are pleased to offer for your consideration this lovely old Staffordshire Pottery Hen on Nest Covered Dish. It is hand painted in cheerful shades of orange and green, with black and burgundy accents. It has better detail than most, with each feather nicely defined, and you can see the eggs she is sitting on peeking out from beneath her. The bowl or nest is yellow with a basket weave design. This would have been made in one of the Staffordshire potteries, in England around 1880. The hen is in excellent condition, and the bowl is good, except for crazing on the inside bottom and rim where it has been used to bake in the oven, but this is to be expected in pottery this old and just adds character. It measures 6 1/4" across, 9" long, and 7 1/4" high, a really charming old piece to add to any kitchen decor or collection.
