Pendant Fashioned from Antique Pottery Shard
We are pleased to list a variety of unique and interesting pendants formed from antique pottery shards, found around the long gone sugar mill plantations in the Virgin Islands. Many years ago these great old transferware dishes were used as ballast in the hold of the old sailing ships, bringing supplies into the islands. These lovely one of a kind pieces were lovingly shaped and encased in gold filled wire by a local artist in St. Croix. Each one is unique, a small piece of history and certainly a great conversation piece. This is an exceptional two sided piece with a blue and white transfer printed design on both sides, it has just enough surface crazing to add character, as befits it's age. It measures 1 1/2" long by 7/8" wide, in excellent condition, a very attractive and unusual piece. Please be sure to click on photo for enlargements so that you can really enjoy this lovely piece.
