This is a really striking piece of English Gaudy Ironstone C1862, in the "Old Japan Vase" design. It is hand painted over a transfer design, with black and burnt orange predominant, and soft golden yellow and blue accents. It features a tall vase on a table, surrounded with flowers. The rim design is separated into eight segments, showing a wide basket shaped container of flowers and fruit, alternating with panels of fan shaped leaves. It measures 10" across and is in excellent condition, with the colors just as bright and fresh as the day it was made. It has both a printed and an impressed mark for G. Ashworth, in Staffordshire England. How nice to find a piece 140 years old in such pristine condition.
