This colorful, vintage wind-up toy is made of celluloid. A nicely detailed elephant balances on a large pink ball atop a blue celluloid platform with tin wheels. Above the elephants head is an umbrella with dangling strands of glass beads and celluloid tubes and balls. When wound by the attached key the umbrella turns sending the strings of colorful celluloid pieces in a lively circle while the entire piece moves in a large circle. The elephant is marked; Made in Japan and it is probably from the 1930's or 1940's.
It measures about 7 1/2" tall and is in very nice working condition showing minimal wear. There is minimal discoloration to the celluloid platform and a few of the balls have minor dents. The paint on the tin is good with minimal wear.
