The title may be confusing but look at the pictures of this wonderful, vintage, blown glass ornament! It is blown into the shape of a Halloween pumpkin with a jack-o-lantern face. The glass is clear with what appears like a very thin, translucent green flashing or paint. The depressions of the face are detailed with a thin whitewash type paint. Inserted inside the j-o-l is a piece of silver tinsel garland. Ornaments like this were generally made in Germany for American export in the late 1800’s or early 1900’s. The metal cap on this is marked; Made USA. In Margaret Schiffer’s book; Holidays - Toys and Ornaments, there are several figural glass light bulbs from Robert Merck’s collection with the caption "Assorted characters, including Halloween related figures intended for use on the Christmas tree".
The ornament measures about 2 3/8” in diameter. It measures about 3” from the top off the metal cap, excluding the wire loop, to the point at the bottom. The glass is in good, undamaged condition. There is wear to the green flashing and the white paint. There is what appears to be a mold line in the glass which I have tried to show in the picture. This appears to be in the manufacturing of the glass and not a crack.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
