This colorful, vintage menu is from the U.S. Naval Steamship called the S.S. President Grant. It is dated Thursday, September 18, 1941 and was En Route to Trinidad. The cover of the menu features dancers and musicians in colorful Caribbean costume. The inside makes for fun reading with dishes like Pickled Walnuts, Boiled Fresh Ox Tongue, Steamed Sultana Pudding and Preserved Chow Chow being offered for dinner. This was voyage Fifty-Six - Eleven and was only months before the ship was in Manila where the Japanese air attack took place at the beginning of United States’ involvement in WWII. On the bottom edge of the back it reads; American President Lines. This is a wonderful souvenir of the cruise ship as well as being a menu and a piece of art.
It measures about 8” by 10” in its closed state and is in very good condition with minimal edge wear and light soiling on the back and inside.
