This vintage mechanical doll is made of celluloid and comes complete with her original clothes and box. When wound she "walks" forward moving her arms back and forth and her head from side to side. Her body is metal but her head, arms and legs are all celluloid. She is wonderfully dressed in a plaid skirt with matching bonnet, puffy sleeved blouse, full slip and undies. She has "socks" with painted metal shoes that are marked; Made in Japan on the bottom. Her hair is molded and her facial features are sweet and painted. She even has an original tag that once hung from a string that calls her a Sonsco Mechanical Walking Doll. She comes with her original box which resembles a shoe box covered with wall paper but the inserts make it obvious that it was intended for this doll. It has a Made in Japan - Modern Toys triangular trademark on one end and I believe she was from the late 1930's.
She measures about 13 1/4" tall and is in very good condition with almost no wear. The key may not be original as it is marked India but it works well to wind her. The box has seen some wear and has been reinforced on the inside. It has tears, bits of missing corners and stains. It measures about 14 3/8" by 6 1/8" by 3 3/4" deep.
