Beautiful, Old Watch Fob - Carved Mother of Pearl Horse Head

This vintage watch fob is a single piece of mother of pearl carved into the shape of a horse head. It has nice detail and the artist utilized the iridescence of the shell in areas like the mane. The rigging on the horse appears to be a heavy gauge, gold filled or rolled gold, flat wire and there is a small rosette on either side by the horse’s eyes. A jump ring is soldered to the top strap of the rigging so that this piece can be hung as a fob on a watch chain. It’s a very attractive piece of jewelry that probably dates to the late 1800’s.

It measures about 1 ¾” from nose to the back of the neck and about 1” high to the tip of the ears. It is in very nice but used condition. There is some discoloration to the metal and reins that go from the bit to the back of the neck are bent. I have not tried to polish the metal and leave that to the discretion of the buyer.
