Old, Celluloid Alligator, Letteropener with Black Boy Pencil - German

This is a vintage, celluloid alligator that could be used as a letter opener. Inserted into his mouth of the alligator is a wood pencil with the celluloid head of a black boy on the end so it appears as though the boy has been all but eaten by the alligator. The alligator is nicely detailed down to the ferocious teeth. It is embossed “Germany” on the bottom of the lower jaw.

The alligator measures about 7 1/8” long with the pencil extending out about ¾”.The pencil itself is about 4 ¼” long. It is in very good condition with minimal wear. A few of the teeth are worn from the pencil rubbing on them.

The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
