This vintage ice cream dipper is a No.33 Gilchrist Automatic Ice Cream Disher. The size 12 conical bowl (twelve scoops to the quart) is made of nickel silver and the rest was nickel plated bronze and brass with a wood handle. Gilchrist's were the standard of the industry and used in most of the soda fountain shops but this one is not the standard as the bowl on this is conical. The thumb lever is marked "Gilchrist's No.33" and it was patented in 1914. The bowl as previously stated is nickel silver which is a white metal. It is a very sharp looking scoop.
It measures about 10 3/8” in length and the bowl measures about 2 3/8” in diameter and 1 7/8” deep inside. The mechanism works well and it is in good condition with minimal wear. It is polished, not re-plated and not lacquered. The plating has worn so it has been polished down to the brass on the caps and the bronze shaft making for a very attractive scoop.
