This is a vintage Marhill compact with a beautiful mother of pearl exterior. Although the bottom is the prettiest side with the eight rectangular slabs, the lid with a large, single, slightly domed slab shows the quality of this compact. The pieces of shell have a pretty iridescence of pale pinks and greens. Even the sides are covered with the nacre veneer. It has a small push latch to open the hinged lid which reveals a beveled mirror in the lid that still has the original foiled paper label that reads; Marhill Genuine Mother of Pearl. The interior is goldtone with a protective metal door that covers the powder storage area. It has never been used or filled with powder and it still has the flat, velveteen puff inside. The Marhill name is associated with many glamorous accessories from the 1940’s and 1950’s. The compact also comes in its original royal purple, felt pouch with the Marhill name on the front.
It measures almost 3” by 2 ½” by 3/8” and is in very good, unused condition with no damage.
