This is a vintage, automatic stropping apparatus made by The Keehoh Co. of Detroit, Michigan. It is unusual because it could be used for sharpening both straight edged razors as well as safety razor blades. A heavy leather strap is woven between the rollers. With a blade inserted into the holder, which sets between the “jaws”, you could move the strop back and forth using the metal rings that are attached to the leather. There are adjusting levers on both sides of the body to change from stropping to honing and this comes with the original wrench to make those adjustments. Both sides of the nickel plated steel body read the same; “Keehoh” - The Keehoh Co. - Detroit, Mich., U.S.A. Flinker Pat. Nov. 5,1907. The top of the body has a flat loop so the small leather strap can be clipped on for this to be hung for proper use.
The body of the sharpener measures about 3 5/8” wide by 2 ¼” high by 1 5/8” deep in the closed position. It is in basically good condition with some discoloration to the nickel plating. The adjusting nuts on one side are worn down to the brass.
The strop is well used and worn. It is hard to measure it accurately but it measures about 23 ½” long including the handles by 2 ¾” wide. The ring handles and the pieces that hold them to the leather have some discoloration and rust. The leather is supple but cracked from age and would probably not hold up to much use.
