This beautiful, vintage Q & E ice cream dipper was manufactured by the Erie Specialty Co. of Erie Pennsylvania around 1911. The round bowl, shaft and thumb lever are made of polished aluminum with the rod and screws being nickeled brass. The size 8 (eight scoops to the quart) is marked on the shaft just above the wood handle. The Erie Specialty Company was prolific during the first part of 1900 and made many varied scoops.
It is in good condition with minor wear. The wiper mechanism works well. There is some wear in the bowl from usage and the bowl has a small nick on the edge probably from being rapped against an ice cream carton edge. There is some brass showing through on the nickeled pieces. Overall a very clean ice cream scoop in original condition. It measures about 10 3/4" in length and the bowl measures about 2 7/8" in diameter.
